You may know that asbestos is a hazardous material. But how can you tell whether it is present in your home or commercial building, and more importantly, how can you make your property asbestos-free? This page explains asbestos and our asbestos-related services.

Sloop Concurrent - The complete demolition company

How we carry out asbestos removal

For asbestos removal, an independent party must prepare an asbestos survey report before work can begin. Once we receive this report, one of Sloop Concurrent's professionals will contact you to arrange an appointment. At this first appointment, we take measurements and add them to your file. Using the available information, we then prepare a plan of action to discuss with you. We consider every detail, such as the structure and any additional materials that need replacing. After discussing this with you, we include everything in a no-obligation quote and review it with you.

How Sloop Concurrent works

Identifying asbestos

It is important to establish whether asbestos is present in your home or premises. Asbestos can cause health problems and is therefore very dangerous. At Sloop Concurrent, we recommend always having an asbestos survey carried out. Professional investigation will establish which type of asbestos is present. If you choose not to do this and look for asbestos yourself, be extremely careful and read the points below closely:

  • Check the year the suspicious materials were manufactured;
    Materials manufactured between 1945 and 2001 usually contain asbestos.
  • Examine the texture of the suspect materials;
    Asbestos-containing materials can be recognised by a waffle-like honeycomb texture. Asbestos cement materials often have recognisable white asbestos blooms scattered across the surface.
  • Check the reaction to fire;
    Find a corner or piece of broken material with clearly exposed fibres. Expose the fibres to a flame and observe the reaction. Do the fibres glow without being destroyed by the fire? Then it is likely to be asbestos.

Asbestos survey

An asbestos survey investigates whether asbestos is present in a home or building. It examines both directly visible asbestos, such as in roofs and floors, and concealed asbestos, such as in walls or crawl spaces. Make sure the asbestos survey is carried out by a certified surveying company.

Carrying out an asbestos survey

An investigation to produce a professional asbestos survey may only be carried out by an independent party. This means Sloop Concurrent is not permitted to carry out the asbestos survey itself. Asbestos removal companies may not conduct the preliminary survey, just as a surveying company may not carry out the asbestos removal. This is required by law. Sloop Concurrent works closely with an independent asbestos surveying company so that everything can be arranged properly and on time. The survey itself takes around two hours on average, depending on the size of the house or building.

The results of an asbestos survey

Depending on the circumstances, the asbestos survey company we work with aims to provide a survey report within two weeks, or 14 days. If this is not feasible, you will be informed in good time.

The validity of an asbestos survey

An asbestos survey report provided through the independent party working with Sloop Concurrent is valid for 36 months, or three years from its issue date.

Asbestos roof removal by Sloop Concurrent

Removing asbestos is dangerous work that requires appropriate precautions. It is important that the process is carried out safely and correctly to minimise hazardous situations. Have asbestos removed from your roof or roofs by an accredited, certified asbestos removal company! Sloop Concurrent employs experienced, professional demolition operatives with many years of asbestos removal experience to handle this unpleasant job for you.

How long does asbestos roof removal take?

The time required depends on the size of the roof, but it is generally possible to remove the asbestos roof and install a new one within a week. We agree a convenient date with you and keep you informed of progress throughout the work.

Clearing rubble after asbestos roof removal

Special rubble bags in various sizes are available for asbestos removal. When removing an asbestos roof, Sloop Concurrent collects the debris in a skip fitted with a rubble bag. We make sure you receive the disposal receipt for your records and as proof that the debris has been handled correctly.

Finishing and handover

When we renovate your asbestos roof, we also measure up the folded metal flashings needed for the finish. All materials are ordered in good time or made to measure for you, ensuring they arrive on schedule. We finish your new roof professionally and leave the work area swept clean. Do you have any questions or comments after completion? Our service does not stop at handover! Asbestos removal: step-by-step plan

Asbestos remediation means removing asbestos-containing materials. Sloop Concurrent has versatile staff who can not only remove the asbestos but also immediately renovate your roof or wall. This keeps all the work with one company, which is very convenient!

Step-by-step guide to replacing an asbestos roof

Sloop Concurrent's experienced demolition team follows a set process to ensure asbestos removal runs safely and smoothly:

  1. Quote: We prepare a quote clearly setting out all the work and associated costs. Once you approve it, we schedule your project.
  2. Starting work: We carefully prepare for the start of the work and submit an asbestos removal notification to the local authority on your behalf.
  3. Preparation file: The preparation file is completed, and we notify the local authority 48 hours before work begins. The work area is cordoned off with yellow tape, making it clear to everyone that unauthorised people may no longer enter.
  4. Inspection: After the asbestos has been removed, an inspector checks the work. If everything is approved, the area is released for use.
  5. Installation: We professionally install the new roof or alternative material.
  6. Rubble removal: We take asbestos-containing rubble to an authorised disposal site. We also collect the other rubble and can remove it by agreement.

Having a new roof installed after asbestos removal

While removing your asbestos roof, we arrange for the new roof panels to have already been delivered. Everything is then ready to install your new roof quickly. Sloop Concurrent owns the equipment needed for professional roof installation, including access platforms, cranes and tower cranes, lorries and telehandlers. Having all the necessary equipment in-house allows us to install your new roof accurately and quickly!

Estimated time for fitting a new roof

Installation time can vary considerably and mainly depends on the area of roof being replaced. We can, however, give an estimated duration. We aim to install an average of 1000 m² of roofing in one day.

Asbestos removal costs

It is difficult to give a specific indication of asbestos removal costs, because these mainly depend on the area and quantity of asbestos to be removed. We therefore prefer to calculate a tailored price in a no-obligation quotation. This tells you exactly what it will cost to remove the asbestos from your home or premises.

Asbestos removal costs per m²

For a standard corrugated roof, the average cost is between €6 and €10 per square metre (m²). Request a no-obligation quotation for a clearer price.

Sloop Concurrent: certifications and insurance

When you ask Sloop Concurrent to carry out your demolition work, you can look forward to a pleasant working relationship. Sloop Concurrent is well insured. We hold CAR insurance, or Construction All Risks insurance, covering material damage arising during the construction or installation of buildings, roads, bridges and systems. We have never had to make a claim on this insurance, but we prefer to be on the safe side.

Sloop Concurrent is also an accredited training company, training the skilled tradespeople of the future. All our demolition workers are trained in-house, and we do not subcontract our work. This is reflected both in the total cost and in the final result.

Asbestos must always be considered when demolishing structures. We therefore hold dNAA certification, which allows us to remove asbestos. We do so safely and responsibly.
