Need a concrete floor demolished? You can try it yourself, of course, but demolishing a concrete or cement floor remains a tough job. Not every concrete floor can be broken up with a simple club hammer. It requires professional tools as well as physical strength. Below, you can read how we demolish a reinforced concrete floor, for example, and learn about drilling into concrete and cutting channels in concrete.

Demolishing a concrete floor yourself
We strongly advise against demolishing a concrete floor yourself. You need considerable physical strength, the know-how to complete the job and, of course, suitable tools. Removing a cement or concrete floor is demanding work.
Concrete containing pitch and tar was often used in older homes. This material is extremely hard and very difficult to remove. It remains a heavy job, and not every concrete floor is the same. They cannot all be broken up with a basic tool. The right equipment is often needed, such as a Bosch electric breaker.
Sloop Concurrent has various types of equipment suitable for thick and often reinforced concrete floors. We have everything needed to demolish any concrete floor. You do not have to worry about the resulting rubble either: we make sure all demolition waste is removed.

Demolishing a concrete floor with a breaker
Still want to demolish a concrete floor yourself? Read this article about the best tools to use. We use Bosch breakers as examples because, in our opinion, they are the best breakers to work with.
Several types of breaker are suitable for breaking up a concrete floor. Bosch, for example, offers more than five types of demolition hammer that make the job easier. These include the GSH 11VC, GSH 16-28, GSH 16-30, GSH 27VC and GSH 11E.
GSH 16-28 & GSH 16-30
The GSH 16-28 is a 17.9-kilogram breaker with an impact energy of 41 J.
Its powerful motor delivers this impact energy. The demolition hammer also has vibration control, meaning the handle reduces vibration in your wrist. At 255 mm wide and 760 mm long, it is a good demolition hammer for breaking up concrete. The GSH 16-30 looks the same as the GSH 16-28. The only difference is the weight: the GSH 16-30 weighs just 16.5 kilograms, which is 1.4 kilograms less than the GSH 16-28.
GSH 27 VC
This breaker is the heaviest available and weighs 29.5 kilograms. Its powerful motor delivers an impressive 62 J of impact energy. This makes it suitable for heavy-duty concrete breaking, including exceptionally hard concrete known as ‘blue concrete’. This breaker also features vibration control, which reduces fatigue during use. Its robust housing ensures a long service life. The handles on the sides of the tool also make it comfortable to use and easy to control. The breaker is 600 mm wide and 760 mm long. It is an excellent breaker for heavier work.
GSH 11 VC
This versatile model gives you one of the most comprehensive demolition hammers on the market. Weighing 11.4 kilograms and delivering an impact energy of 23 J, it can demolish cement screeds, concrete floors and walls. Unlike the two demolition hammers mentioned earlier, which are too heavy for wall demolition, this one can handle walls too. Only particularly hard concrete floors may require more impact power than it provides. The design distributes the hammer's weight centrally, making it comfortable to use in any position. This is therefore not a demolition hammer for heavy-duty work, but a good choice for lighter tasks.

Professional concrete floor demolition
It is best to have a concrete floor demolished by a skilled professional with many years of experience. Demolishing a concrete floor requires professional tools, considerable strength and, above all, stamina. We regularly encounter customers who first try to demolish a concrete floor themselves. They usually discover that it simply cannot be done without professional, heavy-duty tools. This often leaves us with more work to demolish the floor neatly than there would have been initially. Sloop Concurrent has over 10 years of experience demolishing and removing various types of concrete floor. By working as efficiently as possible, we can often offer much lower prices than other demolition companies.

Concrete floor demolition costs
The cost of having a concrete floor demolished ranges from €15 to as much as €45 per m2. This makes it impossible for us to give a fixed price here. We can, of course, provide an exact, fixed price for demolishing your concrete floor. Simply request a quotation and provide enough information for us to know exactly what kind of floor is involved. As you will appreciate, concrete floors differ in their dimensions, thickness and composition. The floor may, for example, be reinforced concrete. We ensure that Sloop Concurrent offers you the best value.
When you request a quote, we assume you probably do not know how to demolish a concrete floor and may not know much about concrete floors, or want to. That is why it is important to send a few photographs. These often let us quickly see what we are dealing with and provide an exact price.
Naturally, you want to keep concrete demolition costs as low as possible. These are often unexpected expenses, making the price especially important. The cost of removing a concrete floor depends entirely on the area in m2, the floor's thickness, the number of rooms and whether the waste needs to be removed. There is therefore no single fixed price. Feel free to request a free, tailored no-obligation quote. Do you not know how thick your concrete floor is? We can also calculate the work on an hourly basis. In that case, we remove the concrete floor for € 35,- per hour excluding VAT.
What customers say about Sloop Concurrent
Sloop Concurrent would be nowhere without its customers. This is what our customers have to say about us.
Demolishing blue concrete
Blue concrete does not actually exist as a separate type. Cement is a major component of concrete. There are 2 types of cement: Portland cement and blast-furnace cement. In more than 80 per cent of cases, a dark blue interior comes from blast-furnace cement, the binding material used to make the concrete. This blue concrete is extremely hard and takes much more time and effort to break up. We can of course also help demolish a floor made from “blue concrete”.
Wikipedia says:
“Blast-furnace cement is a type of cement with a different composition from Portland cement. The clinker is mixed with blast-furnace slag, a by-product of iron production in a blast furnace. This cement naturally no longer contains iron compounds. Around 47% of Belgian cement production is blast-furnace cement.
Blast-furnace cement generally reacts more slowly than Portland cement, but at very high temperatures it reacts faster. This property is used in tunnel formwork, among other applications. By bringing fresh concrete to a maximum temperature of 65° Celsius and measuring its maturity, the concrete can become strong enough for the formwork to be removed in as little as 1 night. At low temperatures in winter, faster-setting Portland cement is preferred; at higher temperatures in summer, blast-furnace cement is often chosen. Adding extra CEM I 52,5 R Portland cement has the advantage of developing strength quickly and therefore generating more initial heat in the fresh concrete, allowing hardening to get started even in colder conditions.
Concrete made with blast-furnace cement is bright blue immediately after the formwork is removed. Portland cement is grey. The blue colour fades as the surface remains exposed to the air. It also persists if the concrete surface stays underwater.”

Demolishing a concrete bathroom floor
You can, of course, carry out part of your bathroom demolition yourself, but proceed carefully. If you want to strip out the bathroom, part of the concrete floor will also need to be broken open to reach the main pipes.
However tempting it might sound to smash a toilet or washbasin, it leaves an enormous amount of mess. It can also be extremely dangerous, with fragments flying around the bathroom and potentially causing serious harm. Always wear work gloves and safety goggles. This also helps prevent dirt or bacteria getting into any existing cuts. If that happens, a wound can of course become infected, which we want to avoid.
Sloop Concurrent: certifications and insurance
When you ask Sloop Concurrent to carry out your demolition work, you can look forward to a pleasant working relationship. Sloop Concurrent is well insured. We hold CAR insurance, or Construction All Risks insurance, covering material damage arising during the construction or installation of buildings, roads, bridges and systems. We have never had to make a claim on this insurance, but we prefer to be on the safe side.
Sloop Concurrent is also an accredited training company, training the skilled tradespeople of the future. All our demolition workers are trained in-house, and we do not subcontract our work. This is reflected both in the total cost and in the final result.
Asbestos must always be considered when demolishing structures. We therefore hold dNAA certification, which allows us to remove asbestos. We do so safely and responsibly.
