Floor tile removal is almost always charged at a fixed hourly rate. The floor area and how the tiles are attached, whether glued or set in cement, affect that rate. The average hourly rate ranges from €40 to €45. A demolition worker typically spends around 5 hours removing a tiled floor.
The overview below shows average prices, including VAT, for removing a typical living-room tiled floor:
| Demolition company services | Price per hour, including VAT |
|---|---|
| Removing living room floor tiles | € 40 – € 45 |
| Living room floor tile removal, including placing rubble in rubble bags | € 45 – € 50 |
| Removing living room floor tiles, including bagging and disposing of rubble | € 52,50 – € 55 |
| Hourly rate for removing living room tiles (5 hours of work) | € 225 – € 275 |

Price breakdown for tiled floor removal
The price of removing a tiled floor consists mainly of labour. A skilled demolition worker owns the necessary tools, so there are no extra equipment costs. Collecting and disposing of the resulting rubble adds a small charge. In this case, labour accounts for 85%, clearing and disposing of rubble for 10%, and travel for 5%.

Factors that affect tiled floor removal costs
Several factors influence the total price of removing a tiled floor. Can you carry out part of the work yourself or help the tiler with the job? This may reduce the price. The following factors can lower the total cost of this project:
- Do the floor tiles need to be removed?
In some situations, new tiles can be laid over an existing tiled floor. This saves the entire cost of removing the old tiles. Discuss this with one of our tradespeople! - Do it yourself or hire a professional?
Removing floor tiles yourself to save money may be tempting. We strongly advise against it. Removing floor tiles is labour-intensive, and without the necessary experience you can damage the subfloor. This can unexpectedly increase the cost of the job considerably. Choose peace of mind and hire Sloop Concurrent to remove your floor tiles carefully, quickly and efficiently! - Clear up and dispose of rubble yourself
Clearing up after demolition and disposing of the rubble yourself offers a small saving. Unable to do the entire job, but able to manage the clearing and disposal? You can still save around 10% of the total cost.

Useful money-saving tips
Here are a few money-saving tips to keep the cost of removing a tiled floor as low as possible:
- You can reduce the cost of removing a tiled floor somewhat by hiring a demolition company close to home. This saves 5% in call-out charges on the total price.
- A risky money-saving tip is to do the job yourself. This saves almost the entire cost, but beware: it is not without risks! If the subfloor is damaged and needs levelling again before a new floor finish can be laid, saving money can turn out to be expensive.
We recommend leaving tiled floor removal to an experienced Sloop Concurrent professional!

Is a permit needed to remove a tiled floor?
Removing tiles alone is different from altering a load-bearing floor. Complete the permit check in the Omgevingsloket for your specific plan. An environmental and planning permit and a demolition notification are separate procedures.
A screed is not automatically a load-bearing floor. Establish in advance which layers will be removed and whether the supporting structure, pipes or fire-resistant partitions will be affected.
In principle, a demolition notification is required for more than 10 m³ of demolition waste per demolition activity. For asbestos, the exemption for up to 10 m³ does not apply. Also check any special rules for the building and address, for example:
- a listed or protected building;
- a location within a protected townscape or village conservation area;
- rules in the municipal environment plan.
