Demolishing and dismantling kitchens requires precision. It usually involves more than simply taking a sledgehammer to the kitchen. For example, you need to consider pipes and cables and surrounding materials to avoid unnecessary damage. You are therefore looking for information about what a demolition company charges to remove or dismantle a kitchen. The information below gives you more insight into the average cost of kitchen dismantling.

The average cost of demolishing and removing a kitchen
The final quoted price depends on the kitchen's size and accessibility, and on any extra work, such as removing floor or wall tiles. Many demolition companies also offer the option of removing a non-load-bearing wall at the same time.
The table below gives guide prices for removing a standard kitchen. Additional work, such as installing a new kitchen or rerouting pipes, is not included.
| Average kitchen dismantling costs | |
| Activity | Costs |
| Dismantling a kitchen | €125 per linear metre |
| Taking the kitchen to a disposal site | € 175 |
| Removing tiles from walls | € 100 per linear metre |

Factors affecting the cost of demolition
The costs charged depend on several factors. The most important are listed below.
The size of the kitchen
The size of the kitchen has the greatest influence on its removal cost. Generally, the larger the kitchen, the more expensive it is to dismantle. However, companies assess kitchen size differently. Some use its measurements in metres or square metres, while others prefer to base it on the number of cabinets and appliances.
Finishing
You can choose to have the kitchen space fully prepared for a new kitchen. In that case, the dismantling company will not only remove the old kitchen but also make sure the walls are left neat and tidy, for example by removing wall tiles.
Access to the kitchen
Whether the kitchen is at the front or back of the house affects the price. If it is at the rear, materials will usually have to be brought in and taken out through a rear access route. The extra walking takes time and increases the price. Sometimes the kitchen is not on the ground floor, which also leads to a higher bill. Carrying waste and materials up and down is time-consuming work.
Any additional work
Most companies can also take care of fitting your new kitchen. In that case, the old kitchen is removed, the room is prepared and the new kitchen is installed. Preparing the room sometimes requires additional work, such as moving pipes or upgrading the consumer unit. Some demolition companies also offer the option of removing a non-load-bearing wall at the same time.
The table below shows the average costs of carrying out the additional work.
| Average costs of additional work | |
| Activity | Costs |
| Buying a kitchen | €11,000 |
| Installing a new kitchen | €775 |
| Rerouting pipes | € 625 |
| Upgrading the consumer unit | €310 |
| Plastering walls | € 20 per m2 |
| Painting walls | € 15 per m2 |
| Demolishing a non-load-bearing wall | € 250 per linear metre |

Ways to save on costs
You have decided to have a demolition company remove your kitchen, but your budget is limited and you do not want to tackle it with a sledgehammer yourself. You therefore want to know how to keep the costs as low as possible. We have put together some money-saving tips for you.
Roll up your sleeves
To give the tradespeople a helping hand, you can choose to do some of the preparation yourself. For example, you can empty the kitchen cupboards and remove their doors. You can also make the specialists' work easier by clearing clutter and providing a clear route for bringing materials in and taking them out. Covering the floor, disconnecting appliances and switching off the electricity are also tasks you may be able to do yourself. You can then leave the heavy work and precision jobs to the demolition company.
Sell reusable components
Do not take your old kitchen straight to the tip; try selling it first. In some cases, it may still be worth something to someone else. If that does not work, consider giving it away for free. You will save on the cost of disposing of it. You could also sell individual kitchen parts, such as handles, taps and appliances. This may bring in some money and reduce your disposal costs.
Hire a specialist demolition company
Removing a kitchen requires precision and care. Naturally, if you have sold the kitchen to someone else, you do not want it damaged. There are also gas pipes, water pipes and electrical wires that must not be damaged, as repairs are often very expensive. Make sure you hire a professional tradesperson to dismantle your kitchen.
Choose a local demolition company
To save on travel charges, it is best to hire a company working in your area. Travel charges vary between companies but can be as high as about 0.75 euro cents per kilometre.
Dispose of the waste yourself
If you hire a company to remove your kitchen, waste disposal is usually included in the quotation. In some cases, however, it is cheaper to take the waste to the disposal facility yourself. Most municipalities allow you to take a certain weight of waste to the recycling centre free of charge. If you decide to transport the waste yourself, it is advisable to discuss this with the demolition company in advance.
