Kitchen to be dismantled

Kitchen demolition costs

Have you bought a new kitchen? Or are you considering renovating your kitchen and reusing some of its parts? In either case, the old kitchen needs to be removed. Do you lack the knowledge or the time to do this yourself? Our qualified demolition team is happy to help. Our tradespeople dismantle your kitchen neatly so that it can even be reused, while also taking care of your walls, ceiling and floor. This allows us to remove your kitchen without damage. Before we start, you will naturally want to know the cost.

The price you pay naturally depends on several factors. As a general rule, the longer our tradesperson spends on the job, the higher the total cost. It also matters whether your kitchen is to be dismantled or demolished, as dismantling requires much more precision. Will you dispose of the kitchen yourself? That will also reduce the overall cost. Below is a useful overview of kitchen dismantling costs.

Factors affecting kitchen demolition costs

Would you like your kitchen professionally demolished? We recommend hiring a tradesperson to do this for you. The price we charge depends on the size of the kitchen and how accessible it is. See some examples below:

Size of the kitchen

One of the factors we consider is the size of your kitchen. Dismantling an L-shaped or U-shaped kitchen with many cupboards takes longer than a simple straight kitchen. If you do not want to reuse certain parts, we remove the waste or rubble for you. Is there a large amount of waste? We will hire a skip for you and pass on the cost. If there is very little waste, we take it to a nearby disposal facility, which is almost always free of charge.

Kitchen access

We also remove the rubble, which often helps keep the price down. If the kitchen is at the front of your home and can be removed through the front door, this costs less than removing a kitchen at the back. In the latter case, we often need to carry waste out of the back door and around to the skip. If your kitchen is not on the ground floor, our tradespeople also need extra time to remove it. This is reflected in the price.

Removing tiles

We always loosen the surrounding tiles first, followed by the wall fitting. The wall fitting can be heated so that it disconnects easily, allowing us to remove the tap without breaking it. Naturally, we have the proper tools to remove the old tiles from your kitchen walls, such as a demolition hammer. A demolition hammer is needed to remove a concrete floor. Glued tiles can also be removed more easily this way than with a hammer and chisel, for example.

Removing kitchen tiles leaves holes in the walls and floor. These surfaces therefore need levelling again before new tiles can be laid. Old tiles are often looser and can be prised off easily. We only use a hammer and chisel when necessary, to avoid unnecessary damage to the walls and floor.

Have your kitchen demolished or dismantled?

If you want to replace or renovate your kitchen, the old kitchen must naturally be removed first. There are two ways to do this: you can have the kitchen demolished and let us take it away, or you can choose to have it professionally dismantled. This lets you decide which parts of the old kitchen to reuse. Dismantling is therefore the sensible choice if you want to reuse any parts. You can reuse the old cabinets or appliances, and we work so precisely that you can even reuse the tiles. We dismantle your entire kitchen without damage.

If you choose to have the old kitchen demolished, we remove it completely and take the unwanted materials to a waste disposal site or municipal facility. The cost of disposing of rubble varies by municipality. You can also choose to take the rubble away yourself to reduce the total cost.

Our approach to demolishing or dismantling your kitchen

Below is an overview of how our specialists dismantle or demolish your kitchen.

Isolating gas, water and electricity

We can only start once your gas, water and electricity have been switched off. Otherwise, water could flow through your home or gas could escape. The electricity is usually isolated by switching off the relevant circuit in the consumer unit. Switches, sockets, lighting where necessary and cables are then removed. The gas supply and the main water stopcock are also shut off. We then drain the water pipes.

As you can see, this is demanding work requiring relevant expertise. If you do not have it, leave your kitchen demolition to a professional company.

Dismantling kitchen cupboards

Dismantling kitchen cabinets requires precision. The specialist starts by removing the doors, taking away a considerable amount of weight. Next, they remove any mounting systems from the walls. You can then reuse the cabinets if you wish. Would you prefer not to? We will take them to a local recycling centre for you.

Removing kitchen appliances

Once the kitchen cupboards have been expertly removed, it is time for the appliances, such as your microwave, oven, dishwasher and extractor hood. For the extractor hood, the filter is removed first, followed by unscrewing the hood from the wall. You can also reuse the tap by disconnecting it and then carefully removing it. Before choosing a new kitchen, consider which appliances you can reuse. This often saves on the overall cost.

Removing the worktop

You can also choose to reuse your worktop. We can usually remove it without damage by cutting away the sealant before our tradesperson releases the top. Does your worktop have an unusual shape? Undoing its fixings may take longer. For example, an L-shaped or U-shaped worktop takes more time to remove, which will be reflected in the total cost.

Removing the kitchen tiles

Once the entire kitchen has been dismantled or demolished, we can remove the tiles. You may want to reuse them in your new kitchen or another bathroom or washroom. If you choose to reuse them, our tradespeople work carefully to avoid damage. Sometimes tiles are firmly bonded with adhesive, making them much harder to remove intact. Our tradespeople always discuss with you first whether reuse is feasible.

Do you not want to reuse the tiles? That will reduce the total cost. We can then remove them relatively easily without needing to preserve the tiles themselves. Naturally, we ensure that your wall remains undamaged and level it where necessary. As well as wall tiles, we can of course remove your floor tiles.

Removing mould from a kitchen

Like a bathroom, a kitchen is a humid space. When removing your kitchen, we may encounter mould, for example where moisture has built up behind cupboards over the years. Because mould is not easy to eradicate, we treat it with a primer. This prevents it from reappearing through the new plaster or paint.

Removing kitchen sealant

You would be surprised how much sealant is used when installing a kitchen. When we remove a kitchen, a lot of sealant is often left behind. As well as looking unsightly, it can obstruct installation of the new kitchen. After all, you want a smooth, even surface to work on. We therefore remove all sealant residue from your old kitchen.

Removing a load-bearing kitchen wall

Are you thoroughly renovating your kitchen or opening it up to create an eat-in kitchen? There is a good chance a wall will need to be removed. If it is load-bearing, this must be done with the greatest care. You cannot simply remove a load-bearing wall. A new support structure, using beams or a lintel for example, must first be installed.

Take the old kitchen to a recycling centre

We can take anything you do not want to reuse to the appropriate disposal point at a recycling centre. We are a full-service demolition company and can help with every aspect of demolition, including rubble removal. You can of course choose to dispose of the rubble yourself to reduce the total cost.

Removing a kitchen means there is a lot of material to take away. You have several options for what to do with your old kitchen:

  • Reuse: some parts of your old kitchen may still be perfectly suitable for your new one.
  • Disposal: we can take care of this for you, or you can do it yourself to save money.
  • Selling your old kitchen or some of its components.
  • Give it away: platforms such as Marktplaats can often help you find a new home for your old kitchen very quickly.
