Exposed pipework in the living room, bathroom or toilet is still common in many homes. Are you tired of seeing the pipes and would you like them neatly concealed? There are several ways to do this. Some options are suitable for DIY, while others require knowledge and experience. Read about the different ways to conceal pipework here and choose the option that best suits your situation.

Concealing pipes in the wall
What tools are needed to remove tiles? Concealing pipes in the wall is the most efficient solution. A wall chaser cuts a channel into the wall and the pipes are relocated into it. The channel is then closed with filler and can be painted to finish.
You can cut a chase yourself if you are a highly experienced DIYer. Would you prefer the best result and a safe approach? Choose an experienced Sloop Concurrent professional to conceal pipes in your wall by cutting chases.
Building an enclosure
Which tools are needed to remove tiles? Concealing pipes with boxing-in is a relatively straightforward project. You can make the boxing from MDF or plasterboard, for example. Finishing it neatly with paint, wallpaper or another creative treatment lets you hide pipes in an attractive way. The boxing remains visible, but the pipes do not. You can turn it into a feature that adds character to your home or commercial property.
Using folded metalwork
Another option is to conceal a pipe using folded metal casing. This is a bespoke U-shaped enclosure, usually made from aluminium or stainless steel, which is placed around the pipe. The pipes are then hidden from view, and the casing can be finished to blend into the rest of the wall with plaster, paint or wallpaper.
Taller skirting boards
If the pipes to be concealed are just above floor level, they can easily be hidden behind taller skirting boards. Special skirting boards are available with a hollow interior designed to accommodate pipes. Once the pipes are carefully positioned, they will be completely out of sight.
Painting in the same colour
The easiest and cheapest solution is to paint the pipes the same colour as the wall behind them. This does not hide the pipes, but makes them less noticeable.

Concealing pipes in chased channels
Are you tired of visible pipework in your living room or another part of your home or office? The most efficient solution is to have channels cut into the wall to conceal it. Wall chasing is a substantial job requiring the right knowledge and experience. If you are an experienced DIYer, you may choose to do it yourself, but otherwise we strongly advise against it. What is wall and floor chasing?
Chasing a wall for pipework involves cutting a narrow channel into the wall to create space to conceal the pipes. This does mean that the pipes must be moved into the new channel. Wall chasing is a job that requires great care to achieve the best and neatest result. To finish, the channel is filled with filler or another suitable material of your choice. It can then be painted, plastered or wallpapered to blend in with the room.

Cost of cutting wall channels for pipes
Cutting a channel is a job you can do yourself, but for the best result we recommend hiring an experienced professional. Knowledge and experience allow channels to be cut much more accurately and straight, making the finishing work easier and better. Depending on the situation, a tradesperson takes around one to three hours to cut channels in a wall. Conditions that make cutting more difficult, the number of pipes or cables to conceal and the finish required all affect how long the job takes. Material costs for cutting the channels and finishing the wall afterwards are charged separately.
On average, cutting a channel for pipes or cables costs around € 60,- to € 100,- per hour.
What types of pipes and cables do we cut channels for?
Chasing channels to conceal pipes and/or cables is a common job. But which types of pipes and cables can be concealed this way? Read on:
- Underfloor heating and central heating pipes;
- Water and gas pipes in the kitchen or bathroom;
- Electrical cables for television and internet connections;
- Electrical cables for lighting and spotlights;
- Other pipes and cables are assessed for suitability for installation in wall channels. We recommend leaving this to an experienced expert.

Work involved in concealing pipes in chased channels
Sloop Concurrent's tradespeople have many years of experience cutting channels in walls to conceal pipes. Over the years, we have developed a step-by-step procedure that our staff follow carefully:
Measuring and marking out: The correct chase dimensions are measured precisely and checked again before being marked on the wall.
Cutting the channel: We use a wall chaser with sharp cutting discs to cut the channel into the wall. This allows very accurate, precise work. We carefully follow the marked lines to prevent cracks or holes in the wall.
Fitting pipes and cables: Once the channel has been cut, pipes and/or cables can be moved if necessary and fitted into the channel.
Finishing: Once the pipes and/or cables are in place, the channel can be finished with filler, a filling compound or plaster. It can then be decorated to your taste, with paint or wallpaper, for example. The pipes and cables are now completely concealed.
Materials needed to conceal pipes in chased channels
Professionally and accurately cutting channels for pipes requires the right equipment. An advanced wall chaser with sharp cutting discs is the most important tool. Alongside the wall chaser, we use the following equipment for the best result:
- Spirit level: We use a spirit level to ensure the lines are completely straight.
- Clips and/or nails: We use these to hold conduits and/or cables together in the cut channel.
- Filling compound or filler: Once the pipes and cables are in place, the channel can be filled with a filling compound or filler.
- Paint, wallpaper or another finish: Once the channel is complete, it needs to be finished to suit the rest of the room. This can mean painting it the same colour, applying matching wallpaper or choosing an entirely new finish for the whole wall and/or room.

When you ask Sloop Concurrent to carry out your demolition work, you can look forward to a pleasant working relationship. Sloop Concurrent is well insured.
