What is pile cropping?
Pile head trimming takes place after the concrete piles have been driven into the ground. At that point, part of each pile still projects above ground level. This is the part that will be connected to the house foundations to form one solid structure. Chipping away the part of the pile above ground is known as pile head trimming. This exposes the reinforcement inside the pile, ready to be connected to the reinforcement in the foundations. The difference between pile crushing and pile cropping
A frequently asked question is what the difference is between crushing pile heads and trimming them. Pile head crushing is carried out using an excavator. The machine essentially squeezes the pile until it breaks. This is faster and therefore cheaper, but it also carries more risk. When pile heads are crushed, we often see piles that no longer meet quality requirements and are therefore rejected. This means the piling has to be done again! Pile head trimming is more labour-intensive and therefore slightly more expensive, but its major advantage is that the piles are almost never damaged after trimming. The remaining work can then be carried out smoothly and quickly, ultimately saving you both time and money.
