Structural calculations are essential for certain types of work. Among other things, they determine which replacement load-bearing structure must be installed, how substantial it must be to carry the load and which material is most suitable. Sloop Concurrent works with a regular structural engineer who prepares these calculations for us, which costs you less than hiring an independent structural engineer. To give you an idea of the average costs, we have prepared the table below:
| Type of structural calculation | Average price |
|---|---|
| Extension | € 175 – € 500 |
| Balcony | € 50 – € 375 |
| Carport | € 100 – € 475 |
| Dormer | € 100 – € 500 |
| Bay window | € 175 – € 500 |
| Solar panels | € 80 – € 190 |
| Roof terrace | € 50 – € 350 |
| In-house structural engineer's hourly rate | € 50 – € 75 |
| House on strip foundations | € 900 – € 1500 |
| Structure on foundation piles | € 300 – € 700 |

Structural calculation price breakdown
The cost of structural calculations is made up of several elements. Because Sloop Concurrent works with a regular structural engineer, we can offer structural calculations at a more favourable rate. Even so, labour accounts for around 55% of the total cost. As structural calculations are prepared using advanced equipment, equipment and software account for 40% of the total. The remaining 5% covers travel charges.

Factors affecting structural calculation costs
If you need structural calculations for a permit application through the Omgevingsloket or to optimise your renovation, two factors affect the price:
- The structural engineer's experience: Are you looking for a structural engineer? It is useful to know that self-employed engineers base their rates partly on the experience they have gained over the years. As a result, prices can vary considerably between engineers.
- The type of project: A structural engineer's fees are around 1–2% of the total renovation cost. This means that the larger the project, the higher these fees will be.

Useful money-saving tips
It is essential that structural calculations are prepared by a qualified structural engineer. Paying for calculations and a drawing may feel expensive, but keeping the structure in excellent condition is important to prevent construction errors and future damage. You can use the following tips to reduce the cost of structural calculations to some extent:
- Local structural engineer: A structural engineer nearby may charge lower travel fees or none at all.
- One large project: Are you considering several projects in your home over the next few years that will require structural calculations? Combine the smaller projects into one overall project so that structural calculations only need to be prepared once.

Why have structural calculations prepared
Structural calculations are a very important part of a renovation. Among other things, they establish how much weight the replacement or existing supporting structure must carry to meet regulations and safety requirements. They also determine the most suitable material for the structure.
For work affecting a load-bearing structure, structural calculations are required to ensure insurance cover and obtain a valid permit through Omgevingsloket before the work begins.

What customers say about Sloop Concurrent
Sloop Concurrent would be nowhere without its customers. This is what our customers have to say about us.
Preparing structural calculations yourself
Can you prepare structural calculations yourself for a renovation and/or permit application? To do so, you must have the necessary knowledge and software. After all, this concerns the safety of your home and insurance cover for any damage during and after the renovation.
You need the following to prepare structural calculations yourself:
Structural expertise
Without this structural knowledge, it is not possible to prepare structural calculations. Most structural engineers have a degree in civil engineering from a university or university of applied sciences.
Applicable regulations
It is important to be familiar with the correct, current regulations. If the calculations do not comply, the municipality will reject them. Always work to the latest Eurocodes.
Software
Structural calculations are now prepared using advanced calculation software. Such software is often very expensive. Various programs are available that allow you to pay per use instead of purchasing the full software package.
Benefits of calculations prepared by a structural engineer
Preparing structural calculations yourself is therefore only possible if you have the necessary knowledge. Otherwise, we recommend having an experienced structural engineer prepare them. This offers several benefits, including:
- A qualified structural engineer is often experienced in permit applications;
- A structural engineer is insured against calculation errors;
- A structural engineer has the knowledge needed to produce a well-considered, sound design.
Sloop Concurrent: certifications and insurance
When you ask Sloop Concurrent to carry out your demolition work, you can look forward to a pleasant working relationship. Sloop Concurrent is well insured. We hold CAR insurance, or Construction All Risks insurance, covering material damage arising during the construction or installation of buildings, roads, bridges and systems. We have never had to make a claim on this insurance, but we prefer to be on the safe side.
Sloop Concurrent is also an accredited training company, training the skilled tradespeople of the future. All our demolition workers are trained in-house, and we do not subcontract our work. This is reflected both in the total cost and in the final result.
Asbestos must always be considered when demolishing structures. We therefore hold dNAA certification, which allows us to remove asbestos. We do so safely and responsibly.
